Lindsay Lohan to Plead No Contest to Theft Charge

Despite insisting she is innocent, Lindsay Lohan will reportedly plead no contest to the misdemeanor theft charges she faces over a necklace.

According to TMZ, the 24-year-old is ready to accept responsibility and movie on with her life, as her lawyer, Shawn Holley, will go back to Judge Stephanie Sautner as early as next week to enter the plea in the case.

Lindsay has already been handed to a 120 day jail sentence for a probation violation, along with 480 hours of community service.

Sources have revealed that Lohan and her legal team believe that the judge will not add additional prison time on the theft charge, which would mean that LiLo would serve only her original 120 days and that would end it.

BlackBerry Bold Touch makes brief appearance on RIM's website

As you may have have been able to discern from the multitude of leaks that have surfaced over the past few months, RIM is apparently getting set to debut a new touchscreen-equipped BlackBerry Bold at BlackBerry World next week. While still not completely official, that's now been all but confirmed by RIM itself, which briefly featured the teaser pictured above on its website before pulling it for reasons unknown. As you can see, RIM apparently couldn't help itself and promised that it will be a "bold step ahead," and it appears that the phone is unsurprisingly running BlackBerry 7, which until recently was better known as OS 6.1. Of course, that's hardly the only news we're expecting to hear at BlackBerry World, and you can be sure we'll be there to brave the puns and bring it all to you.

[Thanks, Matt]

Prince William & Duchess Catherine's Wedding Portraits!

A day removed from their fairytale nuptials, Prince William and the newly-titled Duchess Catherine have made their official wedding portraits available for public viewing.

Certainly quite the elegant couple, Will and Kate posed for the trio of photos - with the lovely pair surrounded by their flower girls and young ushers in one adorable shot.

The bride and groom also stood tall for a couple's portrait at the Buckingham Palace locale while flanked by the royal family in the third regal offering.

Dressed in their ceremony garb, Miss Middleton confirmed speculation while dressed in a Sarah Burton designed gown while William donned a Royal Navy Number One Dress uniform.

'Spy Kids 4' Inspired By Jessica Alba's Diaper Duty, Robert Rodriguez Says

'She gets to show the actual trials of dealing with a baby while having a career,' director tells MTV News.
By Eric Ditzian

Over the course of MTV News' Summer Movie Preview Week, we've featured popcorn superhero flicks ("Captain America" and "Green Lantern"), hard-R comedies ("Bad Teacher" and "30 Minutes or Less"), rebooted franchises from the past ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and "Conan the Barbarian") and much more. But we haven't yet focused on movies aimed at kids.

All that changes on Friday (April 29). We'll be rolling out an exclusive clip from "Kung Fu Panda 2" this afternoon, and right now, we're bringing you an exclusive chat with Robert Rodriguez, the writer/director of "Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World," the first film in the series since 2003. The new movie introduces new characters — including Jessica Alba as a spy mom — but also stays true to the original mythology and integrates familiar faces from earlier installments. In this way, Rodriguez told us, "Spy Kids 4" is not so much a reboot as a sequel with fresh talent.

In a wide-ranging conversation, he laid out extensive plot details, explained why these films continue to be appealing a decade after they were first introduced and the surprising (and kind of gross) inspiration that led to the movie, which hits theaters in 3-D on August 19.

MTV News: It doesn't matter if you're doing something like "Machete" or a "Spy Kids" movie, you've always got some tricks up your sleeve. How are you going to wow us with "Spy Kids 4"?

Robert Rodriguez: Man, I can't say everything just yet! There are going to be some things you'll see and go, "Hey, why didn't he tell me that?" You know, we did three of these movies, and then stopped because the kids were getting older. But families still come up to me and say they're watching them, so 10 years later, it felt right to do another one. I got the idea when I was making "Machete" and Jessica came over to my house for lunch with the kids, and she was bringing her daughter out of the backseat. But her diaper had exploded and the kid had made a huge mess and just seeing Jessica dressed up, so beautiful and glamorous, but having to deal with this baby with an exploded diaper, I just thought, "I'd love to see her as a spy mom." I wrote it around her and figured she'd have two new stepkids who don't think their mom is cool, but she's really a spy and their dad plays a spy hunter on a TV show and doesn't know his wife is a spy. There's a robot dog and a spy baby and a new villain, played by Jeremy Piven. And I was looking at my own kids and how quickly time is going by and how you wish you could freeze a moment, so the villain is the Timekeeper, and he is taking time from people and the world is getting faster.

MTV News: Amazing! All of this, born from one dirty diaper.

Rodriguez: That's the thing. Sometimes storytelling is very visual and it inspires you. Then you build and you build, and suddenly you have a movie you're excited to make. You forget it's the fourth one. Oh, and the original spy kids show up, and they're in their 20s. They're the older spies who are trying to reopen the spy agency, which got shut down because of budgetary reasons. Jessica plays Antonio Banderas' younger sister, so she's still part of the original family. She's the aunt of the original spies. It's not really a reboot, so much as a sequel with new kids. And the Timekeeper, he takes time away from you if you're not spending it with your family, because of a personal thing he went through. It's a pretty cool villain plot, because he's not really a villain. And Jessica is so awesome as the spy mom.

MTV News: Yeah, we just saw that first picture of her with the baby strapped to her chest, but she's still wearing her badass spy gear.

Rodriguez: Yeah, the badass spy gear! The opening scene is a flashback where she's about to give birth to the baby. The day she quit being a spy was the day she gave birth, so she's on her last mission, nine months pregnant, on her way to the hospital and still catching the bad guy. So she's repelling, sliding across the cars. Anyone who's been pregnant will tell you: "You're not supposed to do that!"

MTV News: We haven't really seen Jessica in a mature role like this, playing a mom. Did you have a sense that she wanted to take that next step in her career?

Rodriguez: Yeah, I think she liked the idea, because she got married young and had the baby young, so she was dealing with the whole baby situation when we had this idea. We thought it would be a perfect way to deal with what her life is really like, except in this, she's an ass-kicking badass. She gets to show the actual trials of dealing with a baby while having a career.

MTV News: Being that there's a connection between her situation and her character's, did she help build this character and pitch in ideas?

Rodriguez: Completely. She's very collaborative. She said, "I really want to be funny. I should do this, I should do that. I think when I'm with the kids, this is the kind of game I'd play with them." She really brought a lot to the table. She knows children and what would come off best for the character.

MTV News: You've got a lot of funny actors in this one, like Joel McHale.

Rodriguez: Joel McHale, he's awesome! He really is a scene-stealer. He brings you ad libs. Even if it's written, you look at the script and go, "Oh, he just made it sound funnier." Sometimes I'd tell him just the concept of the scene, and he'd ad lib 30 things and they're all funny. The hard part is figuring out which one to use.

MTV News: Do you see this as the start of a whole new trilogy?

Rodriguez: We'll see what happens with number four. I know they want to make more of them. The reason these movies do well is that there's not many live-action films that are very empowering to children. Parents could never understand it, but that's why Power Rangers are so popular — because there are kids beneath those suits. Kids like and support anything that empowers and supports them. It's a powerful idea to know you can be a kid but also a spy and you can strap on a jetpack and fly around the world and not have to have your mom drive you to the mall.

It's Summer Movie Preview Week, and MTV News will be bringing you exclusive interviews, clips and photos for the most anticipated films of the coming months. Get ready to gorge on inside looks at "Captain America," "The Hangover Part II," "X-Men: First Class," "Cowboys & Aliens" and more.

Check out everything we've got on "Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World."

State Farm driver feedback app
State Farm Driver Feedback app for the iPhone - Click above to watch video after the jump

Somewhere deep in the recesses of your mind is the desire, surely Freudian, that "I'd like more input and feedback on how I drive, even to the grocery store." Or, at least, State Farm believes that's how some of you feel since it has just released a Driver Feedback app for the iPhone that will give you just that.

Invoking the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, State Farm says, "Three of the riskiest driving behaviors are hard acceleration, hard deceleration, and hard swerves." Using the iPhone's GPS and accelerometer the app will keep track of the trip and how hard or soft your acceleration, braking and cornering and then issues a score for each category. The complete game-ification of safe driving means that you can also compare your trips and scores, and share with others.

We aren't sure what the criteria are for measuring Light vs. Moderate vs. Severe actions, but if anyone must know it's State Farm... right? If you need more convincing, check out the short video after the jump.

Us? Well, let's just say we remain... unconvinced.

DirtFish Rally School draws the ire of neighbors

DirtFish Rally School helmet on a Subaru

Unless you suffer from the kind of neurological defect that causes you to turn into a grinning fool every time you hear an engine bounce off of its limiter, you might not be entirely happy to have a rally school set up shop next door. DirtFish Rally School in Snoqualmie, Washington has made a name for itself as one of the best venues in the country to learn your way around a steering wheel, but according to The Sno Valley Star, not everyone's thrilled with the institution's success.

Local residents have complained of noise from both cars and the school's PA system after DirtFish recently hosted the Global RallyCross for ESPN. The school obtained a special two-day permit from local authorities for the event.

DirtFish president Ross Bentley said that the event was within the county's noise limits, and that all operations had ceased by 6 p.m. the evening of the RallyCross. Most days, events wrap up at 5 p.m. or earlier. Legitimate problem or much ado about nothing? Feel free to sound off (pun sadly intended...) in the Comments.

Sengoku Impressions Preview - First Look

We discover just how much work goes into running a 15th-century Japanese war clan.

It took more than a strong arm and a sharp blade to unite the fractured country of 15th-century Japan. During this violent time, cunning, diplomacy, and knowing when your best friend might try to poison you were all equally important. Sengoku, a real-time strategy game from developer Paradox Interactive, is aiming to capture some of the day-to-day drama of building and maintaining an empire. Your goal is to bring enough of Japan under your influence--through military, diplomatic, orïnefarious means--and usurp the current shogun from his seat in the capital of Kyoto. On the battlefield, the game takes a hands-off approach to combat, but every other aspect of your empire is at your fingertips--assuming you can keep it all straight in your head.

What you can do in your clan depends on whom you choose to control within it. As the clan leader, all the power and prestige rest on your shoulders to lead your people to greatness. You could also take on the role of a middle- or low-ranking lord if you want to ease yourself in. Whomever you choose, your character has three primary ability scores: diplomacy, martial, and intrigue. Diplomacy manages your ability to play nicely with others and conduct foreign relations with neighboring clans. Your martial ranking measures your ability to make war. Finally, the intrigue stat measures how good you are at being bad and dictates your aptitude at conducting espionage and other underhanded deeds. To give your character some added flair, he is also assigned two to five traits. A charitable character might receive a bonus to his diplomacy (for a price), while a paranoid character might lose diplomacy in favor of a larger intrigue bonus.

Your empire itself is driven by two resources: gold and honor. Gold functions in all the ways you would expect. It pays for your buildings, lets you arm your troops, and even lets you hire pleasurable company. Honor, despite its name, is used for the more nefarious acts. You gain honor by honoring alliances and helping your friends and spend it on hiring ninjas to stab your buddy in the back. And, like the old saying goes, it's not a crime unless you get caught--meaning that your honor could take an additional hit if your ninja gets caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie jar. If your clan's honor gets too low, it could affect your diplomatic standing and inhibit your ability to negotiate with others. In the most dire of circumstances, you could always take your own life and regain some lost honor.

There are three ways to build up your empire. The first is to command and conquer--crush your foes and take their land by force. This may not win you many friends, but it is effective. If brute force isn't your forte, diplomacy is always an option. However, to ally with another clan, you will have to provide a hostage as collateral, and if you don't honor your agreement, the hostage is toast. If your middle son just happens to be a fat slob who does nothing but eat all of your food and sleep on your medieval sofa, then sending him away and "accidentally" breaking the alliance could be an effective means of disposal. On the topic of underhanded deeds, the third way to win is by (you guessed it) hiring ninjas to weaken a clan's infrastructure. Burn down enough of their buildings and poison a few of their wells, and you could turn their misery into a pretty nice extortion racket.

From your clan's capital province you may deploy your three masters to improve territories under your control. Your master of ceremonies, in addition to planning sweet parties every Friday night, can help improve diplomatic relations. The master of arms aids in military production, while the master of the guard manages your guilds and the hiring of ninjas. However, as your empire expands and you bring more territories into your fold, you'll soon discover that these three individuals can't manage your entire empire on their own. For that, you're going to need allies. You can team up with the AI, or with up to 32 of your friends in multiplayer, and delegate parts of your empire to be managed by others. Allies can come from clans you've conquered or otherwise folded into your empire, or they can be friends taking on different roles within the same clan.

The battlefield is the one aspect of your rule that is outside of your direct control. You can outfit your armies with the best weapons and training money can buy, but when they take to the battlefield, their fate lies with your general. You can observe the battle's proceedings through a small window on the world map, but that's about it. Your troops are composed of foot soldiers and cavalry. Their specific combat capabilities are determined by the types of buildings you've built in the city from which they were recruited. A city with a gunsmith, for instance, would provide a significant combat boost. Committing your clan fully to the religion of Buddhism also provides a substantial combat boost, but you lose the other bonuses afforded by Shintoism (honor) or Christianity (gold). Committing yourself fully to one religion will sow unrest in your empire from nonbelievers, so allowing all three is also an option (however, you forfeit your ability to get any of the bonuses).

As we've seen, there are numerous systems at play in Sengoku. To help ease new players into the ebb and flow of the game, the development team at Paradox Interactive has been working to streamline the user interface to prevent information overload. After our brief demonstration of the game, we felt like we could handle piloting an empire to greatness (or, more likely, ruin). For those of you who are more management than military, you can find Sengoku on the PC this September.

So Philliebot was a fail, but this chainless bicycle serves as proof that UPenn doesn't always come up short. The Alpha Bike, designed by a group of engineering students, contains an entirely internal drivetrain that allows riders to switch between fixed-gear and multi-gear setups. The simple switch is enabled by an electronically controlled clutch, part of the Switchable Integrated Free-Fixed Transmission (SWIFT), discreetly hidden in the bike's frame. Populating the front hub are a drum brake and a dynamo, which juices the bike's electronics -- the back hub contains a three-speed gear set, put in motion by a simple push-pull cable. When the front wheel starts rolling, an LED screen mounted in the carbon fiber handlebars is illuminated, displaying time, cadence, and speed, among other things -- this data and more is stored on an accessible SD card. As of now, the bike is still a prototype, but if you start saving now, you might actually have enough scratch to buy one when it comes to fruition.

Complete Rules of Entrepreneurship

Each day, Inc.'s reporters scour the Web for the most important and interesting news to entrepreneurs. Here's what we found today.

Entrepreneurs, defined. Merriam-Webster defines an entrepreneur as "one who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise;" however, Business Insider columnist James Altucher believes this definition is inadequate. Altucher, who has started, invested in, and advised dozens of businesses, has created his own definitive 100 rules for being an entrepreneur. Most of the rules on this comprehensive list address the initial challenges of launching a new business—but some rules also apply to those larger, more stable, companies as well. Which rules do you follow? What's missing from the list? Let us know below.

Is the start-up bubble just "blubble?" That's the word Michael Arrington is using, at least. In a TechCrunch piece published this weekend, Arrington asserts that the state of the start-up world is a far-cry from the 1999 to 2000 years of cash and burn. "This isn't a bubble," he writes. "It's more like a Blubble. A blubble? Yes, a blubble. Because there is a lot of whining going on." Arrington asserts that start-ups 11 years ago were encouraged to raise hundreds of millions in venture capital and spend it on anything remotely useful, while today's start-ups are much leaner. High valuations on Facebook and Twitter have stoked the "bubble" buzz, he says, but start-ups are hardly raising enough funds to start using the B-word officially. Well, most start-ups at least. "Absolutely no one is telling start-ups to raise and spend money as fast as they can. With the possible exception of Color. I have no idea what those guys are up to over there in crazy picture-sharing land."

Happy employees work here. In the mist of a gradual economic recovery, how do you retain employees? Fortune highlights the best practices from three companies that made this year's 100 Best Companies to Work For list: Zappos, DreamWorks Animation, and Teach for America. Some of the perks include a live-and-work-from-anywhere policy, free dry-cleaning, meals and medical care on campus, and the ability of veto hiring decisions if a job candidate doesn't fit the company culture. One recruiting manager, Christa Foley, says: "We're looking for people who don't take themselves too seriously." The company she works for interviews job candidates in rooms with weird names, such as an Oprah-style talk show set where candidates sit on a couch next to their HR host.

The stalemate is over. Twitter is staying in San Francisco, the company announced on its blog Friday, the New York Times reports. The news puts to rest a months-long stand-off over during which Twitter threatened to leave its home by the bay, and officials debated whether Twitter should be allowed to benefit from a special tax exemption to San Francisco's only-in-the-state payroll tax. In order to take the break, Twitter is moving into a district of the Central Market neighborhood newly zoned as payroll-tax-exempt. When? "We don't yet have a timeline for our relocation, but we expect we will move into our new space in mid-2012. We can't wait," Sean Garrett posted for Twitter. What's yet to be seen is how the city reacts to similar relocation threats from other local, growing tech companies such as Zynga.

Redmond rethinks employee comp. In an effort to keep from employees from departing for start-ups, Microsoft's Steve Ballmer has unveiled new rules governing employee pay, according to an internal company memo published by GeekWire. The retooled compensation scheme would raise base salaries while reducing deferred compensation awarded in the form of stock. In addition, Microsoft's performance-rating system will be retooled, and special consideration will be paid to "early and mid-level R&D, mid-level company-wide and certain geographies," the memo says. In a post titled "What Microsoft CEO Ballmer Gets Wrong About Employee Compensation," Mogulite's Amy Tennery observes a.) the shout-out for oft-maligned middle managers is surprising; and b.) "For the less-stock-more-cash strategy to be a boon to employees, Microsoft shares would need to decline significantly over time."

Big gains for tablets predicted. When the iPad was introduced a year ago, critics complained it was simply a bigger version of the iPhone—without the actual ability to make a phone call. The iPad and its competitors have since proven themselves highly useful both for consumer and for commercial use. Goldman Sachs forecasts tablets will account for 17 percent of all wireless data demand by 2020, as reported by All Things Digital this morning. Smartphones remain far more prevalent than their larger counterparts (they can make phone calls after all), but this data proves tablets are fast becoming less a luxury and more a necessity for consumer and commercial use.

Marketing begins at home. Sure, customers research large purchases, such as electronics or automobiles, before heading to the store or showroom. Research shows that "coming out of the recession, consumers are more scrupulous about researching their everyday products such as diapers and detergent, too," the Wall Street Journal reports. More than one-fifth of consumers research food and beverage purchases online, one-third research pet products, and nearly 40 percent research baby products, data from consulting firm WSL Strategic Retail shows. Is this an early knell for the end of flashy in-store shelf displays and aisle-end promotions? Not necessarily, but it does mean retail stores and brands are boosting their investments in reaching consumers online first, including on social media. Eighty-three percent of consumer-product companies say they plan to increase their investments in shopper marketing over the next three years, according to a Booz & Co. survey.

Are you a winner? Eager to learn more about the ins-and-outs of social media and how to apply them to your business? An American Express-sponsored Facebook contest could land you (and four other small companies) a trip to Facebook's offices in Palo Alto, California, as well as $2,500 in Facebook ad credits and a $20,000 check, ReadWriteWeb reports. How can you enroll? Why the AmEx OPEN Facebook page, of course.
