Ever wonder what you might get Justin Bieber for his 17th birthday? Well, the pop star has the answer. In honor of his big day, he's working with the nonprofit Charity: Water, requesting that his fans donate money to the cause that brings clean water to developing nations.

"I have had an incredible year and it is all due to the fans helping me live my dream. I'm turning 17 years old on Tuesday and have so much to be grateful for!" Bieber wrote on the charity's website. "So this year, I really want my birthday to be all about helping others. Instead of asking for gifts, I'm asking friends, family and fans to consider donating $17 for my 17th birthday to help make a change," he continued. "One hundred percent of all donations go directly to building clean water projects in developing countries with Charity: Water, and we'll be able to see photos and GPS of the projects we helped build!"

The teen star then gave his fans some facts about they should get involved. "Together, we've made a big difference for many causes. Did you know that about 4,500 kids die each day from waterborne disease?" he shared. "By building clean water projects for villages that need them, we can prevent this! I want to make my birthday matter this year — let's make it so more kids can grow up to have a 17th birthday like me. Join me to make a change.

"I'm really so grateful for my family, friends and fans — and I believe we can do something big to help bring clean water to people in need," he added. "Even if you don't have $17 to give, I just ask you to go out in your community and try and make a positive difference. Even the smallest act of kindness can go a long way. Thanks and God Bless! #makeachange."

As it turns out, his call has already been answered by his fans. Charity: Water tweeted, " Thanks to all you Beliebers, we hit $7 million raised on mycharity: water today! #makeachange."

Dianna Agron's Glee-ful Workday

Looking to get her fix of pre-work fruitiness, Dianna Agron was spotted hitting up a local juice bar in West Hollywood yesterday (February 28).

The ?I Am Number Four? actress looked lovely as she strolled out onto the street, sporting a grey sweater with dark wash jeans and black knee-high boots as she then headed to the set of her hit FOX show "Glee".

The work week comes after Dianna had quite the busy weekend, as she was spotted attending both the Montblanc cocktail party as well as the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party.

Additionally, Miss Agron and her ?Glee? gal pal Lea Michele hit up Comme Ca for some oysters on the half shell.

REALLY BAD BUSINESS IDEA: A Facebook App That Encourages Your Crush To Break Up With A Significant Other And Date You Instead

caraso appThe idea: Falling for someone in a relationship? WaitingRoom is the latest solution.

The Facebook app notifies users when their crushes become single.

What's worse, it emails their crushes before breakups even happen. It lets the committed person know someone's waiting for their relationship to end. The app won't tell them who, though, until the breakup is Facebook official.

Whose idea: Caraso

Why it's a bomb: The app's obvious flaw is its infinite creepiness, but there are logistical issues too. Stalking is limited to those who list their relationship status, but many people—taken or not—opt out.

Caraso competitor Breakup Notifier, which had 3 million users, was banned by Facebook last week. We're sure this creepy copycat will soon face the same fate.

Search Engine Optimization Horrors: Be Careful Who You Hire For SEO

A recent article in The New York Times, The Dirty Little Secrets of Search, by David Segal exposes the backhanded tactics some SEO firms utilize to improve their clients' search engine rankings.

Segal investigated the unusually high rankings by J.C. Penney the last several months for a broad range of keywords. Through the help of a search expert, The Times uncovered the use of paid links scattered across the web, on mostly obscure, unrelated websites.

These paid links pointed to the jcpenney.com site. This technique is considered a no-no in Google's SEO rulebook, and is part of practice known as "black-hat" optimization.

Segal explains black-hat services "are not illegal, but trafficking in them risks the wrath of Google. The company draws a pretty thick line between techniques it considers deceptive and "white hat" approaches, which are offered by hundreds of consulting firms and are legitimate ways to increase a site's visibility."

Turns out J.C. Penney issued a statement saying it was not involved with or aware of the paid links, but shortly thereafter fired its search engine consulting firm.

Upon notification, and after investigating the findings, Google has adjusted J.C. Penney's ranking for a variety of keywords. In one case, in a span of two hours J.C. Penney dropped from the number one search result for "Samsonite carry on luggage" to a dismal number 71.

J.C. Penney's story is fair warning for small businesses to ensure their hired SEO help only employs white hat optimization techniques.

Infiniti signs on as F1 global sponsor with Red Bull

Infiniti announced today that it is signing on to be a sponsor of Red Bull's Formula One racing team.

It is the first time that Infiniti is signing on to a global sponsorship of any kind, previously preferring regional tie-ins in sports such as tennis and sailing. But as the Japanese brand looks to expand globally, says global marketing marketing communications chief Simon Sproule, an expanding F1 series looks like a logical partner to the company.

"Infiniti has launched in Europe and is going into Russia, India and China, just as F1 has done, so it's a good fit for us," says Sproule.

The association with Red Bull, says Sproule, sprung from Red Bull's use of Renault engines. Renault and Nissan are global alliance partners, with the French automaker holding a controlling stake in Nissan. CEO Carlos Ghosn is at the top of both automakers. The Renault engines may even be rebranded "Infiniti." Red Bull, of course, won the championship title in Formula One last year. "It's also good to be with a winner, of course," said Sproule.

Infiniti had a good year in the U.S. last year. Sales were up 27% to crest the 103,000 level. But Nissan is looking for Infiniti to be a bigger player in luxury circles worldwide. F1 attracts a good amount of luxury car buyers worldwide, and is catching on in important markets for luxury brands like China and Russia.

Red Bull, says Sproule, has a broad appeal as the biggest energy drink brand in the world. The Austrian beverage company has associated its brand with numerous extreme sports, as well as owning the New York Red Bulls Major League Soccer team. It also has great crossover appeal between rich luxury car buyers, as well as young luxury car aspirers who don't yet have the incomes to afford big sticker prices.

Building a Successful Food Blog

Filled with food porny photos, accessible recipes, and witty musings about everything from lemon pasta to the fact that her most recent Valentine’s Day involved takeout pizza and How I Met Your Mother, it’s no surprise that Deb Perelman’s smittenkitchen.com is one of the most popular food blogs around. Counting the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Oprah as fans, the blog won Best Photography at the 2010 Bloggy Awards, and was a finalist in the Best Writing category as well. Her first book, The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook, will be published by Knopf in 2012.

How did you come up with the idea for your blog?

I was a bit of a collector of what I considered great recipes, recipes that worked each time, before I started the site. I couldn’t stand the idea that anyone would make a bad recipe for yellow cake they found on the web when I had a great recipe for yellow cake. The site grew out of this; I wanted to share what I knew with people.

Do you do this full time? If so, when did you realize you could make a living writing a food blog?

I do this (and some other freelancing, plus I'm working on a cookbook) full time. The equation for me was fairly simple; figuring out if x (site income) > y (current income).

At what point did you realize it was popular? How does it feel to have fans like Gwyneth and Oprah?

I don't think it's sunk in in any way. I fear if I only listened to nice things that people said about me, I’d become complacent. So I don’t pay attention; I just focus on what I want to cook next, and how to make it the best version of the recipe that it can be.

How has food blogging evolved since you started smittenkitchen.com in 2006?

I think it’s become a lot more commercial—there are a lot of partnerships/giveaways/sponsored posts/trips/dinners and although not every site takes part in these, it feels like a lot do. I’m not immune; years ago, I did one one giveaway (reusable grocery bags) and went on one networking trip before deciding that for me at least, anything worth mentioning was worth paying for (I blame my journalism background) and that if this meant I didn’t partner up, so be it. Staying disentangled has made life much easier and helped keep my original focus—recipes and stories—intact.

How do you maintain quality and protect your brand?

I’ve maintained quality, or hope I have, but not outsourcing anything. It’s bad for work flow—every single person who knows me knows that I’m swamped and need an assistant/editor/e-mail reader/comment weeder/photo editor/recipe tester—but I can’t let go. I’m not good at letting anyone else’s voice represent me, so I just do what I can. Slowly. Hope quality trumps quantity.

What's the biggest lesson you've learned in the last few years?

I work so many more hours that I had ever realized. I thought when I had a baby that I could have a babysitter come for a few hours each day, maybe 20 a week, and get all of my work done! Oof.

Any advice for aspiring writers?

Be your bad, dorky self. Cook the food you love. Don’t work for free. Send all e-mails that contain the words "SEO improvement," "link exchange", and "we think your readers want to know about..." into a folder marked Never— it’s just noise.
