Best Bet: Kevin Murphy Hydrating Hair Rinse

Kevin Murphy makes the best shampoo and conditioner you’ve never heard of — unless you’re particularly on top of your Australian fashion glossies. The bricklike packaging may look gimmicky, but the product works. First, the scent: Both are infused with Kakadu Plum, a vitamin-C-packed fruit from northern Australia that smells sweet and fresh without being overly fruity or floral (none of that saccharine coconut-orchid-pomegranate-splash business). The hydrating conditioning rinse has a rich, creamy consistency that feels like it actually coats your hair, and ingredients like primrose oil, micro algae, shea butter, and sunflower oil leave heat-damaged locks shiny and tangle-free. The whole line is free of sulphates and parabens, opting for plant extracts and essential oils instead. The only downside? You won’t find these at Duane Reade — check ecofriendly salons like the East Village’s Swing.

Kevin Murphy Hydrate-Me Wash and Hydrate-Me Rinse, $25 at Swing Salon, 280 E. 10th St., nr. Ave A.; 212-677-2008.
